The old folk named it Kharad-Veyr, the Sleeping Spine of the World. Its roots stretched farther than memory, deeper than the reach of miners or kings. Beneath its black stone halls slept ancient fires, and beneath those fires rested something older still. The dwarves once ruled there. They carved kingdoms beneath the earth and forged silver crowns lit by molten rivers. Their songs were said to make stone weep, and their hammers rang like thunder beneath the roots of the world.
