Since middle school, they had never stopped meeting in Mike Wheeler's basement to play RPGs. Mike loved creating new stories about monsters, fights, and magical powers. All of this wasn't real in their world, of course, but in Mike's mind, it was. Mike had always been a freak, but there was one thing even worse than being a freak: becoming like his father, Ted Wheeler. Will and El come back to Hawkins for Christmas. Mike starts to lose feelings for Eleven but can't figure out why. Soon enough Mike realizes he never truly loved Eleven, there was someone else who caught his heart first. There are suggested songs for each chapter. He feels humiliated and runs off to the bathroom. Mike finds him there, crying, and goes over to comfort him, but he can't say everything that he needs to say because he's still not ready to admit all his feelings. Though he still needs to be there for him, even if it's just as a friend.
