everything had gone back to normal in hawkins, indiana when eleven had closed the gate a year prior. she also got what she'd always wanted, to date mike wheeler. things seemed great, until will felt the mind flayer in him again at day of the dead. that's when the party and the rest of the gang decided to band together to help defeat the mind flayer once and for all. will sorts out his feelings with his completely oblivious best friend, who soon realizes el is not the one for him. like any other good summer, it sparks some new relationships and budding romances. but, of course something is going to get in the way of that..

Little moments can change an entire relationship. This is what Will learns when pinkies cross while watching movies or small stares cross in rooms. Little comments that cause a red fluster to appear on each others cheek can change a relationship that's happened for years. That's what Will Byers learns when secret moments happen with him and Mike Wheeler.

"what are you trying to say, mike, i dont get it!" will yelled, shaking his head in confusion. "im in love with you, will! thats what im trying to say!" everything was silent for a moment. just mike breathing heavily and will looking at him in complete and utter shock. "what?" - will tells the party that hes gay, and mike goes completely silent. he cancels him and wills sleepover that they were going to have, and will blames himself. but through a course of events... he realised that he shouldve been more observant.

"Mike please stay" will whispers in the cool rain with nothing but the pajamas on his back. He shudders under his breath drenched in water. " I love you Will, but I can't" Mike places his lips on will softy making Will warm for a moment. As mike puts away from him and gets on his bike and peddles away in the rain. Will collapses in the floor and cries in his wet clothing Or Intoxicated Mike finds himself at a live show and sees his childhood best friend on stage singing his heart out about the night he left him.

It's been 2 weeks since the rift split in Hawkins and the Byers are packing to move back to follow the expectations of the Military. As will works through his feelings towards Mike and the knowledge that his feelings are unrequited, he begins to notice things he hadn't before. Maybe his feelings aren't so one-sided after all. (Takes place in the 18 months between season 4 and season 5)
