Sadie Mandell was a 15 year old girl, living with her older sister Kate Mandell, and her friend Rose. Sadie had a disliking towards Kate. She believed she nagged to much. Kate one day had to work for a family, the Fairchild family. She had to teach the little girl in the family, Flora. They meet her older brother Miles, a coldhearted boy, the same age as Sadie.
