Schoolchildren across the 10,000 Worlds have heard of Baron Sachaverell Gideon Hhavohk, OME, the Hero of Tenebris. His battle strategies are studied in military school, and dramas are told of his adventures. A memoir of a scoundrel, he tells how he was expelled from Human Akademie für Höheres Lernen, how he purchased his way into the 11th Hussars, his banishment to distant Wrythe and his service fighting there -- all the while, pursuing other men's wives, dodging responsibility, and trying to stay alive by avoiding the fight at all costs.
