A deadly virus is accidentally released from the National Biotechnology Lab in the city, infecting thousands within just a couple of hours. Hayes was serving in the military at the time and her entire regiment was alerted of the crisis. They were immediately deployed into the city in an attempt to contain and stop the spread of the virus. Quarantine zones were set up within the centre of the city and an old military base was used as a headquarters base of operations. It wasn't long until there became more infected than living, and the city became overrun. Most of the military soldiers were killed or missing in action, not many were lucky enough to make it out.
