In Miraflores, Peru, Isa is everyone's favorite topic-mainly because she's seventeen and still single. In a neighborhood where gossip travels faster than Wi-Fi and futures are practically planned for you, Isa is used to being watched, discussed, and occasionally "helped" along. So when she gets the chance to leave for the UK, she takes it-thinking distance will finally quiet the noise. It doesn't. Because coming back home means facing everything she tried to outrun... including the one person who has always felt like home. And in Miraflores, secrets don't stay secret for long.

After finding the body of a young girl in the bushes of her New Orleans neighborhood, Miles, a pessimistic but fiercely loyal high schooler, becomes curious about the girl's history. Maybe it's because she's around her own age or because no one seems to have known her but Miles can't let go of the sight of her sunken body. With the high rates of violence in her neighborhood, Miles doubts the young girl's killer will ever get caught and enlists help from Syndey, a handsome neighbor that happens to have OCD and her disabled, younger brother, Jelly, to find the truth. Miles must balance her family issues with her absent father coming back into her life, her very secret crush on a boy that doesn't like to be touched and a voodoo high priestess trying to teach her how voodoo can make everything right in her life...for a cost.

In the country claimed to be a successful utopia, there are two sides of the spectrum when it comes to how the society is viewed. To the man who was handed leadership over the country, it is everything he and his mentor wanted it to be. To the young woman leading the rebellion against him, there isn't enough done about the majority viewing every minority as less than human. All he wants is to contain mental illness and keep peace among the citizens. All she wants is to be able to live freely without the fear of being captured dictating her every move. He has every medical professional and ignorant civilian on his side. What he doesn't know, though, is that she has an entire underground society helping her fight against him.

There is a clear lack of representation, recognition, and safe spaces for aromantics and asexuals. Due to this, I have prompted myself to write this to those who need it. You are not alone. You are not broken. You are enough. People will tell you who you are, but they are not the ones who define that. In a society so heavily based upon romance and sex, as well as an idealized path of life, it can feel isolating navigating who you are. But you are not alone. You are not wrong. And you can be who you discover yourself to be and grow to become. Remember no two people's experience is the same, however we can relate in our struggles. Do not generalize queer or other minority experiences as one :). Hopefully, this writing does bring understanding to those seeking it. I will use trigger warnings. Suicide hotline: (1-800)-273-8255 for anyone who needs. I am an aroace spec agender young adult :). I wrote this poem, around 8:00PM. The day after, I went to an event at school, which talked about how our world is truly cruel to minorities. Ten minutes of my life, went into this poem. I wrote how I felt, and I wanted to share it. This poem is in memory of all the blacks who have lost their lives to cruelty.
