Welcome to the Harrington family. We are honest. Hardworking. Faithful to our morals. And successful. We live-at least in the summer-on a private island off the coast of Massachusetts. The Harringtons are tall, athletic, and attractive. Old-money Democrats, passionate about sports, with an immense need to present themselves as a united family. The Harringtons have wide smiles, square jaws, blond hair, and sun-kissed skin. All of them, except me. Note: This story is a We Were Liars fanfiction.

(We Were Liars Series) Eloise Sinclair is sixteen - smart, quiet, and permanently out of place. She's the product of a summer affair her mother, Carrie, would rather forget. Banished to boarding school most of the year and left out of the family's polished image, Eloise returns to Beechwood Island for the first time in two years - but not by choice. Her mother forced her back, hoping to keep up appearances, but Eloise is determined to get through the summer unnoticed. But nothing stays hidden forever. As Eloise navigates the cold shoulders of her cousins, the resentment of her brother Johnny, and the uncomfortable whispers of the Sinclair legacy, she finds solace in the most unexpected places - her soft-spoken grandmother Tipper, the curious and distant Candence, and Gat, the outsider who sees her clearer than anyone. But peace doesn't last in this family. As well as appearances.

Not so much because she didn't like the role, but because, after the sudden breakup with her ex, she knew she would find solace either in acting or in her old childhood friend: Joseph Zada. She doesn't yet know that the summer of 2025 will be the one in which she will rediscover love. She was raised to be perfect. But Beechwood doesn't need perfect. It needs liars. And C.C. Hawthorne has always been the best.

What if Cadence, Mirren, Gat, and Johnny's stories didn't end that way? What if... they had a new beginning? A short story based on a "what if" I had desperately wanted to happen. SPOILERS for people who have not read "We Were Liars" by E. Lockhart all the way to the end.

Every summer, Feylence Bentri returns to Beachwood Island-a place of salt air, sunburns, and memories that hurt more than they heal. After her mother's death, she clings to the only constant she has left: the Liars-Cadence, Mirren, Gat, and Johnny Sinclair. Feylence is bold. Big-mouthed. The girl who flirts just to feel something. And Johnny? He's the one who bites back. Their teasing has always been harmless-until this summer, when the fights start cutting deeper, and the line between hate and something else blurs like the horizon. But on Beachwood Island, nothing is ever just sun and saltwater. Secrets linger like fog. And before the summer ends, everything they think they know about each other-and themselves-will be tested.

On Beechwood Island, it is always summer. The Sinclair family owns the sand, the houses, and the legacy, but Lorelei Bistre has only ever borrowed it. With her brown eyes, brown curls, and poetic heart, she's the outsider the Liars let in. The fifth, the quiet one. The girl who loved Johnny Sinclair when no one was supposed to know. Now it's Summer Sixteen. Lorelei returns to the island, her place at the dinner table secure but delicate. Mirren, her best friend, pulls her into late-night swims and wine-fueled secrets. Gat reads her poetry. Cadence confides in her. And Johnny, Johnny smiles that smile only she gets. Everything feels golden. Too golden. Because something simmers beneath the surface, family tension, inheritance wars, and a reckless plan born out of desperation. And then the fire happens. By Summer Seventeen, Cadence is back-but nothing is right. The island is quieter. The air is heavier. And the Liars, who laugh and drink and walk the beach with her, are keeping a devastating secret. Cadence can't stop asking questions. Lorelei won't give her answers. Because the truth is this: They are all gone. And Cadence is the only one left to remember them. ‼️ I DO NOT OWN THE CHARACTERS (except lorelei) OR ANYTHING TAKEN FROM THE BOOK/SHOW. ALL OF IT BELONGS TO E.
