Being a cashier at a convenience store means seeing a lot of people come in and out. Sometimes, one sticks out more than the rest.

*Spoilers* So, this is set during the Maze Runner (the movie) just after Chuck dies, where the Gladers are in the helicopter and getting taken away. I saw a missed Newtmas opportunity in that scene and decided to take advantage of that. Uh, a little angsty as well and probably(?) sad. I cried writing it ngl

Once upon a time, at a friend's engagement party, ZOE was there-but not really present. ZOE didn't notice much of anything that night. Definitely not Dimitri . A few months later-maybe longer; memory's slippery that way-there was another celebration at the same friend's family restaurant. He was there too, but again, ZOE didn't register his presence. At that point in her life, ZOE changed her focus on men as often as ZOE changed lipstick. Her attention shifted fast and often. Maybe ZOE was distracted by someone else. Maybe ZOE wasn't ready to notice Dimitri . Then came a night that, in hindsight, became a quiet turning point. ZOE had just returned from a three-month overseas trip-a story in itself-and joined her friend at a nightclub we'd never been to before. It was new, unfamiliar. She had a couple of her own friends join us that night. ZOE didn't care for their company. ZOE wasn't interested in who they were. And, yes - he was one of them. The same man from those two earlier events. And still, ZOE didn't notice. Later that night, for reasons ZOE can't recall, they all went for a drive-to a spot people usually go to when they want to be unseen. It was the early '90s; not much stayed open past midnight. They drove up and drove back down. That was it. No grand moment. No sparks. After that, Dimitri -started showing up regularly at our usual nightlife haunts. Sometimes we'd hang out, sometimes they wouldn't. He didn't stand out to ZOE yet. He was always... there. He started holding onto ZOE car keys. It became our quiet routine: Zoe would give Dimitri her keys, and whenever he left-or ZOE moved on to another venue-I'd get them back. ZOE didn't question it at the time. Years later, ZOE realised: he held her keys so he could know when she was leaving.

This song explores the internal conflict and confusion of someone grappling with unrequited feelings. They initially pushed away a confession of love due to fear, only to be left with lingering regrets and a haunting sense of what might have been. The song captures the bittersweet ache of lost opportunities and the struggle to define the nature of their connection.

I live by a simple rule: nothing and no one is truly beautiful. My standards are a fortress, and I've never been struck by love-or even beauty-at first sight. Until her. She was the exception. From the moment our eyes met, she breached my walls, and we became inseparable. I memorized the curve of her lips, the light in her eyes, the way she played with her hair. But I only ever saw the pieces, never the whole picture. I was deaf to the meaning in her laughter and blind to the question in her smiles. _> Then, the silence began. An intangible feeling we once shared vanished, replaced by unanswered texts and a new name lighting up her screen. I told myself it was nothing. I told myself we'd go back to the way we were. I was wrong. Now, I'm left to wonder: What happens when the person you finally see as beautiful is looking at someone else? And how do you live with the knowledge that you were the one who told her to look away?

Julia is just your average girl nursing a broken heart with a secret from the world. from a call center, she transferred to a magazine, and had to work under the most arrogant man she had ever met. Are men really bad luck? Side note: I originally published this in 2004 in another platform and currently updating the chapters to suit the current timeline.

Sometimes it's just too hard to say goodbye, especially when you don't feel it's your time to leave. If you don't, you might not get another chance; though second chances aren't always what you expect. For Jane and her son, Alex, one goodbye can take a lifetime.

We yearn for opportunity and pray for it but often fail to grab it when we meet it because it rarely comes the way we expected.
