A short short story. A young girl runs away and her cat follows. DISCLAIMER: This story is based on a true event from my early childhood. However, some details, dialogue, and descriptions have been fictionalized, dramatized, or expanded to support the theme I was aiming for, and to reflect my limited memory of the event. (I will eventually draw a cover for this when I have time)

I've lived on the Mississippi coast for 30 years. I've been through four or five hurricanes and countless tropical storms. Before Katrina came through, I thought, "If my house gets washed away, I'll just stay at my mother's house or my brother's house" - never thinking all our homes would be destroyed. But they were, so everyone in my family is now a refugee. On Friday night (Aug. 26), some of us boarded up our houses. Others in town were saying that they didn't want to "overreact" to the hurricane forecasts. But I was running around like crazy, yelling, "This is a (category) four!"

-State Death Theory- A state can "die" but they are reborn as long as their state lives. The parents they are born from have to die shortly after their birth. They grow up not knowing that they are states. They think they're normal at first. The only way they can "grow up" is to relearn their state's history and mature while "reliving" those events. Every emotion, pain, sorrow, and joy of the past. This involves Rosemaria [New Mexico], "dying" and having to live through everything again with the help of Donovan [Colorado], and the rest of the states, (but mostly Donovan.)
