The sixteenth entry of the 2020-2021 Film Journal is on the compilation film, "Mobile Suit Gundam (1981)". Here, I look back on my experience with this anime series, the sub-genre of military science-fiction, and how this film's construction begins the thematic groundwork for what makes "Gundam" tick.

It is the year 0079 of the Universal Century. A half-century has passed since Earth began moving its burgeoning population into gigantic orbiting space colonies. A new home for mankind, where people are born and raised. And die. Nine months ago, the cluster of colonies furthest from the Earth, called Side 3 proclaimed itself the Principality of Zeon and launched a war of independence against the Earth Federation. Initial fighting lasted over one month and saw both sides lose half their respective populations. People are horrified by the indescribable atrocities that had been committed in the name of independence. Eight months had passed since the rebellion began. They are at a stalemate. Izuku found himself reborn in the Mobile Suit Gundam Universe fighting to survive. one side on the Earth Federation as Amuro Ray while the other with Zeon as Char Aznable.

"Even in this world full of war, I don't care what possibly comes my way! I'll face it and prevail in spades!" A young High School boy named Calvin is sporadically thrown into a Mechanized war spun by the Russians, being tossed into the U.S.'s new Mobile Suit; the RX-78-2 Gundam. His innate skill and prowess with technology will prove to be his greatest ally and enemy as the boy must face the hardships of war and crisis head on.

Long after an unexplained cataclysmic even that sent the Earth Federation and Zeon into chaos, two sets of warring colonies remain. One, a side of Zeon Loyalists and Spacenoid extremists wishing to make a permanent home in Space. The other, a group of Federation Loyalists just trying to find a way home to an Earth that may be long gone. The fate of these colonies is left in the hands of a young Erika Einhardt, a Zeon Mobile Suit Pilot, and her small band of fellow pilots within an experimental training group.

(Alternate universe of T.K.O) T.K.O has won the battle for control and imprisoned K.O into the cage and the hero disappeared after that. A few days later, T.K.O tried to get K.O back, but he was told to be his own person and K.O is now gone, and feeling guilty for what he did, T.K.O decides to redeem himself by taking K.O's place and becoming a great hero. One day, a mysterious Mobile suit called the Gundam Ariacatcher appeared and T.K.O became it's pilot and used it against mysterious enemies that appeared in Lakewood, and know uses this new mobile suit and it's powers to fight the villains that K.O and his friends encounter in their everyday lives and the new enemy army called the Creature Sea.

Young 11 year old K.O have always dreamed of being a great hero and Gundam pilot like his mother, and one day during a Boxmore attack, K.O discovered a Gundam that was called Spirit Gundam, and became it's pilot, and stopped the attack, and he was enrolled as an employee at Gar's Bodega. Follow K.O as he pilots the Spirit Gundam to fight against Boxmore and other villains, as he goes through life as a school boy and an employee at Gar's.
