A collection of fairy tales written with the intention of avoiding common sexist tropes and harmful biases relating to women and the expectations society has for them. Some stories will include other normal aspects of life that are typically absent from traditional fairy tales: same-sex relationships, friendships between male and female characters that do not result in marriage, girls who defy traditional gender roles and are not forced to change for the sake of others, the lot. You know, the stuff that should really be the default nowadays. Be warned that these are still fairy tales: they still have cliches and arguably predictable plot lines. There is still royalty and class inequality that is not addressed in an entirely practical way. This being said, the stories are all geared towards actual children. I grew up reading collections of fairy tales, and I took a lot from them. My mom was always careful to provide me with other stories, like Cornelia Funke's The Princess Knight (a personal favorite), but there are still underlying messages in the stories I still love that only truly hit me when I was older. This is an expanding collection that began as a high school creative writing project fueled by personal art projects and a lot of passion.
