When a child's 16th birthday arrives in the land of Hyperia it is usually met with excitement, celebration, maybe even a tinge of nervousness. But for Maxwell, it may very well be the day he dreads the most. As the third son of the great Mergandov family head, the same family who has served the king of Aradon with their unyielding blades for generations, the pressure he feels couldn't be any more suffocating.
At 16, every youth with the Mergandov name is sent to Aradon's finest academy, where they will mingle with the kingdom's aristocrats and hone their talents to reach their full capabilities as warriors for the king. But that's where Maxwell falls short. All his life, he has trained with the blade, he poured in sweat, blood, and tears, practicing the same repetitive movements over and over, all in order to make his father proud. Yet, those dreams of grandeur came crashing down when he was beaten unceremoniously by his brother, who is a mere 13 years old.
Doomed to mediocrity and believing he has no talent, Max decides to give up his dream of being a great warrior for the kingdom. But fate had other plans for him. When a fight on the first day goes out of control, he catches the attention of the one unassuming professor. That professor, will change everything for Max, as he shows him a path he has never even once considered for himself
