They soon find out that Mr. Nebbercracker's wife's spirit has possessed the house the moment she died. No adults believe the three youths' assertion that a neighboring residence is a living creature that means them harm. With Halloween approaching, the trio must find a way to destroy the structure before innocent trick-or-treaters meet ghastly ends.

Opal Nebbercraker, is the adopted daughter of Constance and Horace Nebbercracker. Like Constance she was a circus freak. With one leg and one arm and different colored hair, When Constance was offered a chance to escape her horrible life she said she'd go only if Opal could come with them and Horace accepted that offer and took them far away from that Circus. But on one Halloween Constance died from trying to scare children away and Opal fell into a coma soon after.
