In a kingdom, far far away, lived a queen who yearned for children, but never bore. Her heart ached as she roamed through the forest, meeting a witch who aids her troubles.
"Put a double handled jug upside-down in your garden. Two roses will bloom, a red for a son and white for a daughter. Consume one, never consume both."
When the Queen saw the roses, she worried. If she had a daughter, she'd be married off to a prince and live far away. If she had a son, he'd have to go to war and would most likely die.
She chose the white rose. It was actually delicious, and ignoring the witch's warning, ate the second one.
This caused her to birth two sons, one adorable baby and the other a Lindworm. The Lindworm grew older, and demanded a bride. They gave him two, but he ate the both of them. Yet he still demanded another.
Not wanting to make enemies with more kingdoms, the king forced a shepherds daughter, Clare to marry the Lindworm. But she is not going to die without a fight.
