Marc is a Jewish-American former mercenary who becomes the avatar for the Egyptian moon god Khonshu. He also had two identities from his dissociative identity disorder (DID). The two characters are Steven Grant, a mild-mannered British gift-shop employee who becomes Mr. Knight, Grant's persona when he is Khonshu's avatar and Jake Lockley, Spanish-speaking chauffeur and ruthless assassin who is Khonshu's most favored avatar. Grew up in Manhattan, Ethan was inspired by his father to study Ancient Egypt and the history behind the avatars. Like his father, Ethan also had DID due to his abuses from bullies at school and had a problem copping his emotions. Marc and Layla help him control his personalities and he remained sane during his childhood all the way up to his teenage year. This is the event after Moon Knight defeated Arthur Harrow, a religious zealot and cult leader associated with the Egyptian goddess Ammit looking to exact justice and judgment based on future crimes. Ethan would later inherit his father's power as Moon Knight III and had two new identities from him, Henry and Thomas.
