A year later, her and Mal are living a simple life in Kerazmin as Alina grapples with the loss of her powers and having achieved her purpose before reaching adulthood. Meanwhile, the Grisha have started to create their own settlement in the area of the Fold, Shu Han and Fjerda remain threats at large, and the Darkling may not be as dead as expected. A story about the impossibility of maintaining happiness without struggle, the risk-reward ratio of desire, and the nature of equality.
