Bound by necessity and a dark, unspoken burden, I crafted a makeshift boat out of uneven planks, household glue, and duct tape. I couldn't do it alone, so I called my mother. Without a single sermon or a glance of judgment, she helped me carry the strange mass to a secluded riverbank to give it back to the earth. A surreal, atmospheric short story exploring a bizarre haunting, familial duty, and the heavy weight of things left unexplained.
