'I crouch at the riverbank, clutching and tearing at chunks of my hair. Slick seal-brown strands fluttering onto the dew-drowned grass. A sob rips itself from my throat, smothering the sound of the river rippling and sloshing over the rocks. I hitch in a ragged breath as her death loops over and over and over in my mind. Stuck on a loop. Looping and drowning. Her head drooping when an undulation pitches her corpse forward. Her drenched hair clumping into rat tails slapping at her pale face. Her mouth fixed in a permanent 'O'.' Lola is starting at the prestigious St Katherine's boarding school in Dawson county, Georgia, after being sent away. Romance, mystery and a sprinkling of profanity lie on the roads ahead. Set in Texas, 1991, Ethel is a young women who lives in the deep southland and has a father who was a beloved pastor. Though the light shines bright at church, there is darkness to come in ethel's story. As she grows up she starts to lose faith in religion, and goes out chasing boys and living her own life, but everything will take a dark turn for the worst. *NOTE*: this whole story is loosely based on the songs and whole storyline of the album preacher's daughter by Ethel Cain, some of it might be true and some of it might be my writing.
