PROLOGUE
The void stretches endless, starless, silent. Suspended in that nothingness floats a cosmic chessboard - squares black as pitch and white as bone, every piece carved from souls and shadow.
Opposite each other stand the two players.
Lira watches the new pawn appear, her strawberry‑blonde hair catching its fierce glow. Her face is calm, steady, but her eyes are heavy with sorrow. She knows what is coming. And she knows how hard she will have to fight to stop it.
Asmodeus circles the board, predatory and smug, his suit drinking the void‑light, his skin shifting beneath the fabric - perfection and decay breathing as one. He stops opposite her, grinning like he already knows the outcome.
"Tonight," he purrs, tapping one long finger against the piece marked RIZPAH, "a mother's love will become a fire that burns the world."
Lira meets his gaze, unflinching. "A mother's love is the strongest force there is. It does not destroy. It protects."
Asmodeus laughs - rich, dark, and thoroughly amused.
"We shall see, Little Halo," he whispers. "We shall see."
