This is the tale of Dr Edmund Cartwright, an antiquarian, who in November 1847 found himself in a storm at South Mymms in Hertfordshire, just north of London.
Cartwright and the other travellers trapped with him weren't aware they were trapped in a service station that wouldn't be built for more than another hundred years. And what did the warning by the old man about the castle, that only stood when it was required, mean?
A Curious Account is one of a series of short stories about Britain's most haunted motorway.
