Her family said she came from the mountains, like a stray cat stumbling to the lit porch of a cottage. She always thought it to be ridiculous. If they said so, why did no one else say so? Then, the word got out that she commited a crime while horribly drunk. She battled with her community for acceptance of her drunken crime. They knew the first crime of the community in 143 years was commited by her.
Even after all is said and done, why does her family continue to affectionately call her Mountain Girl? What in the universe does it mean? And why can't the community move on? Does this event have to become part of her seemingly irrevocable past?
