Her Aunt Rosamund Painswick, whom she has lived with since she was 14 after the tragic death of her parents, tells her that her sister-in-law the Countess of Grantham has asked to her come and say at Downton Abbey since she is of age. This means leaving gloomy London and breathing the fresh Yorkshire air. What will come of this adventure? Will she follow tradition and marry for convenience or marry for love? When Mrs Hughes takes ill, Mr Carson doesn't know what could be the matter with him and it annoys him beyond words. He can't concentrate at work, his thoughts drift off all the time and he even delegates supper to Thomas Barrow. Barrow! But it is only his duty that leads him to worry so much about her, of course. A Butler must be concerned about his staff's well-being...surely, it can't be more than that, could it?

Thomas Barrows has just been named head butler at Downton Abbey. He has long forgotten his unfortunate past including suicidal attempts, fighting and unforgiving mistakes, but soon his joyous spree will come to an abrupt end as Mr. Barrows takes an unwanted stroll down memory lane. A certain footman has returned to Downton, leaving Thomas confused, angry and weary. His past is taking him on a haunting roller coaster ride filled with a sprinkle of love, a dash of mystery, and a whole fuck ton of self-loathing.
