Tawaf is a sacred ritual performed by Muslims during Hajj and Umrah, where they walk around the Kaaba, the black cube-shaped building in the center of Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The story of Tawaf dates back to the time of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his son Ismail (Ishmael). Allah commanded Ibrahim to build the Kaaba as the first house of worship for mankind. After they completed the construction, Allah instructed them to purify it and call people to worship there. As part of this worship, Allah ordained Tawaf, which means to go around. Muslims walk seven times counterclockwise around the Kaaba, showing unity, devotion, and the eternal connection with God. It symbolizes the oneness of God and the equality of all believers, as everyone wears simple white clothing and walks together in humility. The act of Tawaf reminds Muslims that their lives should revolve around Allah, just as the planets revolve in their orbits - constant, balanced, and with purpose.
