Growing up with a hand in each world, ne has seen both magic and technology do seemingly unexplainable things, only to have them explained to nem. The world is too quiet for nem. No wonder ne is the odd one out among nir family; when they like to gather and laugh and sing, ne likes to look to the skies, watching things nobody else knows about, that not even ne can see. There's also the fact that ne is mostly mute.

A desperate robber Dan, on the run from the police, seeks refuge in a quiet food cart late at night. Expecting darkness and solitude, he's startled when the cart's lights flicker on at 10pm- closing at 6am. Inside, Analise, the cart's owner, begins her shift. She is deaf and mute, unaware of the intruder's presence. When a second robber bursts in and threatens Analise at gunpoint, Dan, compelled by pity, intervenes and saves her. Analise, discovering his act of courage, thanks him with a heartfelt note and offers him a job at the cart-generously paying him more than she pays herself. Though the robber is wracked with guilt and feels unworthy of her gratitude, he gradually learns from Analise's quiet persistence and daily kindness that even small gestures can profoundly impact others' lives.
