Years later when Dean is eighteen he decides that he's had enough of being a hunter and takes his little brother with him to college. Sam was always different as a child, his mother mysteriously died when he was younger and from there his life just went down hill. When he finally explodes at his dad about not wanting to move around anymore and moves to Sioux falls to start a new life, things seem to get better.

A mute, history majoring Sam Winchester and language majoring Gabriel Novak meet and slowly fall in love. Gabriel starts to help Sam overcome events of his past and Sam starts to open up to him more than anyone since the accident a few years ago.
