Joanne Hartwell is sent to London via the elder Holmes cousin Julian to hand off a top secret letter to Mycroft Holmes. Someone has infiltrated the ranks of the British Intelligence Services, and as a result are always one step ahead of them. All known codes and ciphers are compromised. Joanne's double cipher 'Syncode' is used for communication between the Holmes's as they search for hidden cold war era technology involving a mad physicist. From an abandoned lab in the Bikini Atolls to an historic research base in Antarctica, the final answer lies in the remote desert wilderness of Australia. Time is running out, as each day the enemy continues to gain knowledge of the valuable secrets that could end with a war between the world's most powerful nations. As if that weren't enough, Joanne finds herself in the middle of a love triangle between Mycroft and his elder cousin Julian Holmes, further complicating things. Ashlyn was your average college graduate: leaving with a Masters in Criminology and moving from her hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio to London so she could get some field experience somewhere new. When her interest in the criminal mind catches the eyes of a certain consulting detective, it isn't him she meets first. His brother, Mycroft Holmes, contacts her about a job offer. Years later she has solved case after case with Sherlock Holmes and his partner John Watson, while also reporting to Mycroft about what goes on when he isn't around. Mycroft Holmes is the most emotionless of the two Holmes brothers. He believes caring is a disadvantage, and always keeps people at a fair distance because of it. That is, until he meets Ashlyn. For some reason she isn't affected by his cold nature, and Mycroft can't help but feel drawn towards this. What starts as an ordinary business relationship starts to develop into something more as he starts wanting to spend more and more time around her. Ashlyn isn't oblivious to this, but as time goes on and she starts realizing she has feelings for the seemingly emotionless man, dealing with them becomes the hardest part of her job. She knows well that he would never feel the same. So what happens when the one she loves is put in serious danger? And how will this affect their future together? (This will end up being a series of random one shots that I decide to make. I don't own any of the characters from Sir Conan Doyle or BBC's Sherlock. I only own the OC Ashlyn, whose appearances are the only reason this story would make any sense.)

She was a kind woman who always seemed to have her nose in a book. Being the center of attention wasn't something she was overly comfortable with, unless she was spouting some fact about history. So, naturally she left the spot light for her younger sister. Mycroft Holmes left the 'fame' business to his brother. He was rather comfortable with his minor position in the Government, working from the sidelines to keep England safe. No need for 'unnecessary leg work', yet he still could make an influence. These people couldn't have been more different. A gentle, emotional woman and man often referred to as 'The Ice Man'. Yet, they were alike in so many ways. So, what happens when they meet one another? Can the eldest Holmes see past the woman's quiet, dull, exterior to the interesting person with in? And can Pond break down the man's walls, and melt the ice with in his heart?

This is the prequel/backstory for The Syncode series I am currently working on, detailing how medical assistant 'Average Jo' Joanne Hartwell meets the elder Holmes cousin, Julian Holmes. It is he who introduces her to his British cousins, Mycroft and Sherlock Holmes. Later in The Syncode, Jo will end up working in London and abroad with the brothers and Julian to find the persons or group who have infiltrated the top ranks of both the British and Australian Intelligence agencies. No one can be trusted, and all codes and cryptographic cyphers currently used within the organizations are compromised. It is Julian who directs Joanne to use her gift of languages and Synesthesia to create a unique code with a double cipher to help MI5 and MI6 overseas find the perpetrators. The story in this timeline takes place somewhere between season 3 and 4.
