It brushed against her. She felt its breath. This was where she'd meet her end. Just like her people had. She could've sworn the guttural sound it made was a laugh. "Run," it taunted. *** A Shifter's blood is more coveted than gold. Unfortunately, all Shifters have been dead for years. So when word gets out that one has been spotted, Mary is intrigued. Chasing what is likely a false hope, Mary travels to the Blue Forest with promise of great reward for a Shifter found alive. But the forest is scattered with corpses, and the few things that live there could easily add her to the death count. With the threat of Beasts and the greed of man, only the powerful or a fool would search for a dead race. Mary is neither, but this may be her one chance to meet a Shifter. I feel the gaze on me. someone's eating me up with their gaze. I'm suffocating. I want to end this.

'Around a month ago," I answered honestly, forcing myself to remain staring at the wall ahead of me as I revealed this. I searched for some fragment of hope or a sign, though I knew that there was none. Their intense stares sent chills throughout my body.' --------- Alexandra Leighwood belongs to a society with a slogan that says it all- "No decisions equals no power, no fighting, no problem." With a fair amount of brainwashing and an ever-present fear of the consequences that come from rebelling, most people bow down to the system, allowing themselves to be utterly controlled and manipulated. But 17-year-old Alexandra, or Alex, is just plain different. Her strong will and determination is exactly what the Administrators DON'T want. Seen as qualities posing a dire threat to society, Alex is in great danger. Will her refusal to give in be her greatest strength, or her greatest weakness? ---------- TRIGGER WARNING: There is a scene where, in the main character's dream, a character is cutting her wrist. Also there are a couple violent scenes (but they're not gory and not that bad). In addition, Alex is required to undress and shower in front of others. But that's about it!

The town of White Oak is well known for its ghost stories and supernatural festivities. However, they aren't used to people coming out of the ground and lighting vehicles on fire with their mind. ... Clay and his brother have gotten accustomed to their isolation from the town. No one wants to talk to an Alister. When he has a seizure in class however, everyone thinks he is begging for attention and faking but he can't shake the feeling of something sinister looming over him. With the death of a loved one, it is clear no one in this town is going to believe him; especially with the disappearance of the body. ... The school soon becomes the least of his worries as he starts seeing things that he cannot explain and his eyes open to a much darker world hidden among his. Being rejected by a pen, floating knives and golden blood are only half of it. The problem is not whether he can find their killer, its whether he can protect himself from being their next victim.
