15-year old Abby Harts and Skylar Darlon go to Mystic High, a school where everyone has a magical power. Skylar is a shy, quiet girl, with long golden brown hair. She posses the power to shape-shift, and become other animals. Abby, much unlike Skylar, isn't afraid to speak her mind. She has dark brown hair and blue eyes the color of the sea. Abby is one of the few spirits of elements, and she is known as the spirit of snow and ice, and will one day become of of the five rulers of Mystic Haven. Both girls are best friends, but are also sure that there is something beyond Mystic Haven. Together, Abby and Skylar go on a journey to discover what lays beyond the walls of their home.

Evette and her younger sister Sadie have believed themselves to be orphans since the death of their mother and absence of their father. When strange letters from a knight arrive at the sister's cottage requesting their presence at the queen's palace, Evette and Sadie are pulled into a dire situation.
