Nagito Komaeda is a mute boy. He's been mute his entire life, and fins himself to dream of what it would be like to speak, and being envious of those who do speak. Without any parents or legal guardians to adopt him or such, he lives at a hospital near his school. There, he has a few friends. Although, each day, a butterfly tends to come and visit his hospital bedroom window, an odd occurrence, to put it in simplest terms. Alongside this, Hajime Hinata is what people would call a normal boy. His life usually was nothing to write home about, and he was at least able to realize that. He hardly had any friends, the count only being two, and he usually felt a longing. A longing for a more unique and special life, something that would contrast from the rest of it all. As if to grant his simple wish, a butterfly is usual to turn up by his own bedroom window every day, checking up on him like some worried mother. Nagito Komaeda and Hajime Hinata had met, only when they were the young age of five. They were friends for about five years, Hinata was the only friend Komaeda was lucky enough to have back then. But Hinata had to move away once they were around eleven, leaving Komaeda and himself in a deep depression. Hajime accidentally forgets about the other, until they coincidentally meet at Hope's Peak. Hinata still doesn't quite remember the other, but, he feels as though the other is much too familiar, while Nagito remembers him clearly and tries to help Hajime remember.
