But when Ethan Cole suffers a medical incident, a glitch occurs that frees him from the control of the nanobots. He is now able to see the world for what it truly is - a prison created by the evil scientist. Determined to dethrone the virtual God, Ethan sets out on a dangerous journey to gather a group of rebels and lead them to a revolution,. Along the way, he encounters other survivors who have also been awakened from the virtual reality, and together they fight to regain their freedom.

But the chipheads who have officially kicked off Singularity, a time characterized most of all by a post-exponential rate of change, unwittingly open the lid on Pandora’s Box. The question is, can she and her long-term on and off again lover, private dick, Rake Madden, close the lid in time before the runaway effects destroy them all? With the most advanced mindchip ever made, created for him by the open-source coalition, Rake devotes himself to unearthing conspiracies against the public interest. He fears unscrupulous individuals and coalitions are finding it ironically easy to get the best of the upgraded humans who delight too much in creating new worlds to worry much about who’s in charge of this one and what they’re doing to the present. That’s the loophole that needs closing if Singularity is not to become a progressive Apocalypse.
