Aidan's game review YouTube channel and affiliated blog were never going to be the biggest things on the Internet, but if you were a fan of MMORG or RPG gaming, you'd certainly have heard of it. His combination of knowledge of gameplay, the lore and (sort of) the technology behind it were nothing special. But the snark he brought to the table? That had won him a following. But astute business woman she was, she knew she needed his input for her next project, a revolutionary immersive MMORG, codenamed Wellspring, supervised and chaperoned by an AI developed by her father, the neuroscientist Peter Bancroft. She'd learn a few things. Oh, and definitely teach the guy a few. And daddy's Data Algorithhm Virtual Immersive System (DAVIS) would help her. And while she was at it, her best friend Maribel. Sweet girl, but boy did she need some steel in her spine. Everything was going swimmingly. Until DAVIS decided to get a few ideas of its own.

Flames. Towering far above six metres, they lit up the thick blanket of night sky with their light, shining brighter than the stars of Olympus, a last revenge from Prometheus to the gods above. Ashes. That was what the lively, bustling village had been reduced to. Every living thing within a two-mile radius had been returned to their original form-- dust and shadows of the past, a mere memory that lives on in the minds of three. And I, I stood at the precipice above the village, spectating the burning with indifference as the cool night wind blew through my body and straight into my soul, stoking the flame of destruction within me. Whether or not Theodore Aspen (Theo, to his few friends) wanted to get dragged into the conflict between his old home, Terra, and his new one, Earth, that doesn't matter. He thought that by becoming an exchange student to Earth with his lupine best friend, Alaina, he would be able to leave his past as an orphan behind and find a new family. The second part happened. The first didn't, and now he's going to find himself on the front lines of the war that he wanted to flee, and it's all due to a few mistakes that he made (mostly, not realizing that his principal on Earth wasn't quite human; no, Mister Marlboro likes Camels, hates Terrans, and oh, wants them all dead. He's going to try all he can to make sure that that happens, and it's Theo and co's job to make sure that it doesn't.) They'll have to stay alive first, but so far so good, thankfully. In the conquered land of Enoss, Samael is a mage living in the slums of the capital city, Archill. Starvation is a daily threat, as his immense magical powers eat away at him from the inside. He is also attuned to the whispering of demons, as all mages are. And the voices are as hungry as Samael himself. The invasive Serandan military occupies Archill, and magic is now illegal. On the run from the ever vigilant mage-hunters, the Knights of Soma, Samael must find a way to survive in the worst conditions. But little does he know, the Knights of Soma would be the least of his problems. When disaster strikes, he has no choice but to rise and seek opportunity in the ashes. Will his powers be his salvation, or will he be another meal for the crows?

For nanowrimo 2018 I'm not completing the full challenge, instead I'm challenging myself to write, and post, at least one poem every day. These may be reflections on the world around me, an expression of how I feel, or dreams that I have for the future. Thank you to anyone who chooses to come along with me on this journey.
