Working at her family's inn in the village Amara and far from the war raging through the rest of Cordelia, Aven Rose Knight doesn't think her dreams of adventure and excitement will ever be fulfilled. She resigns herself to only ever being able to read of such adventures in books until one warm spring morning when three very interesting customers come to the inn. Unedited excerpt from this year's NaNoWriMo story. Those who have read some of my other content will recognise the characters; I am adapting it into an original fantasy story, which is currently above 50k and around halfway through so far. In this excerpt, a sorrowful tale is told. (Yes, I spent about two seconds on the cover, why would you think that :P)

Adelaide Reid must choose between living in the past and moving on when she returns to her hometown and meets a charming restaurateur. It's been seven months since Adelaide Reid's husband of five years, Alex Orwell, walked out and left her. She returns home in time for the Christmas holidays, and while out at a diner meets a charming acquaintance she once crushed on, Blaze Patterson, now a new restaurateur. As time passes, she finds that she is falling for this charming restaurateur, but, there's competition in the neighborhood, yet she recognizes the importance of keeping hope alive. As she starts putting her life together and feels ready to let go of her past, she learns a heart-wrenching truth and realizes that hope can't fix everything. Can Adelaide overcome her past and move on? Will Blaze be able to prove that he's the one for her?

With nothing to do, she takes to documenting all the oddities the secretive backwater island had to offer to all her online followers. That is, until she finds a girl at the top of a watchtower, plunging to her death into the restless sea, and a book with her own handwriting and signature in it, detailing spells, formulas, drawings, and a whole other paralel reality where magic is real. It would've been already weird if it weren't for the fact that the same girl appears in town the next day, very much alive, and not remembering her untimely demise. A mysterious book with ties to a magical realm, a dead girl walking, and a town with secrets in every corner. Autumn's summer just got a little more interesting. And a little bit more dangerous.

Fitting into a new school, WoodBridge High, after being homeschooled to avoid the BloodSlayers is a massive struggle. Keeping time and regimented schedules seems so stressful compared to relaxing in nature with a book to study and cultivating skills such as gardening, creating artwork, and music on her own schedule. Even more stressful is avoiding the the omnipresent social media, whatever that is. Who would understand that a simple tweet with her picture could be seen by the BloodSlayers and bring danger crashing down on her doorstep? Unfortunately for Larkspur, the BloodSlayers determine the Everblooms' location as soon as Larkspur enrolls. A boy in her class, Tanner James, befriends her despite her attempts to remain an invisible loner. He has a secret, too. He comes from a long line of BloodSlayers, and Larkspur is his first assignment. Toy with their prey, then capture and kill is what he's been taught. When two of them uncover the truth behind what caused a centuries-old blood feud between the Everblooms and BloodSlayers, the pair must stand together to end the feud before it decimates their two clans.
