This short story is my entry for the national geographic contest: #planetorplastic.

I'm really proud to write this story as an entry to the #planetorplastic campaign with National Geographic. I had a National Geographic subscription as I grew up. I have fond memories of the stacks of yellow spines in our bookcase and flicking through the pages. It really helped form my view and philosophy on the planet, people and our role in it from a young age. This is something very different from what you would usually see from my writing - this is my personal experience with freediving and how it brought me closer to the Ocean and helped reveal our role in it. I will preface all of this with the sacred rules of freediving; if you want to try it (and I suggest you do!) contact a professional instructor for training and you should never, ever, ever freedive alone.

What if the story of a diver rescuing a manta ray was the only good story about the oceans that a person from the near future could tell? In a time of plastic-clogged oceans and ecological change, what memories and stories could that person have to tell? A fictional account of a photojournalist on assignment to capture the last picture of a soon to be extinct species. This is an entry in the #PlanetOrPlastic contest hosted by National Geographic and Wattpad. This story's intent is to show one human's experience when witnessing our impacts on the environment.

This book is just a list of animal species, and some facts about them! I've never really written a book like this, so excuse me if it's not that good, haha.
