A slice-of-life short about a small master stonecutter's work for a very important client in Ancient Egypt. This was the response to a college assignment, in my creative fiction class, about 10 years ago.

Daughter of Ay, an advisor to the Pharaoh, she has picked up more than a few things while being raised under his roof. Her brains match her beauty and she is determined to prove it. When her ideas start to affect how the people of Egypt see her, will she reign herself in? Or have the fates already decided for her?

These women were rare examples of women holding power in a male-dominated world. Many went on to became beacons of hope, strength and perserverance to their respective peoples. They are remembered for their beauty, intelligence, bravery and unwavering loyalty to their country.

A fictional story based on true events that happened 3000 years ago in Ancient Egypt. Ankhesepaaten grew up in dangerous times. Daughter of the Heretic Pharaoh and Queen, Ankhesepaaten is at the centre of the action. Do the city folk love them, or hate them? When her father dies, the court is in a whirl. Was he murdered? Poisoned? Natural causes? Taken by his God? She lives to see her cruel and harsh brother take the throne. My story is one of shadows-one that is often lost in the dazzling tale of the Sun King's blazing reign. My face is well known, yes. It is carved in many stones beside the Sun's chosen king. Where his bold image is painted, there my subtle likeness appears. Yet, it is the king's madness that outshines any character within our stories, and my name is only muttered when his is cursed. His rule brought ruin, and when the people sought to raze his brilliant stamp from the world, I became little more than the pretty woman who stood by his side while our kingdom was set afire with his dangerous ideas. In the days when gods and men walked together, Nefertiti must navigate the treacherous realm of politics as a new pharaoh rises to claim the throne-- a new pharaoh with an unfamiliar god at his side. Nefertiti holds the fate of her family, her country, and her soul in her hands. The decisions she makes will alter the course of history forever.

One way or another, Nefertiti will become Queen of Egypt, but she's torn between two brothers - one the heir, the other the youngest. If she gets the choice, who will she choose? This is where we find Nefertiti, the most recent heir in the successful line, in the midst of Choosing the four that will rule her empire with her, however only one will have the duty, the honor, of producing the next heir. However, years of relative peace and prosperity are about detonate as the volatile Republic of Antarctica begins its secret plans. They are desperate. And hungry. So the question is not whether the destruction will come. The question is... Who will survive?
