When seventeen year old Nellie green is orphaned by the ongoing war she was placed in an orphanage, her remaining brother still missing in action Nellie was alone and scared until she was sent for by her fathers life long friend Charlie Lockwood. Leaving the upperclass inner city of Westtown on the steam train she made her way to her father's childhood home of the country village of Leyway. Nellie is apprehensive at first being thrown from high society to life she was accustomed to into an orphanage in the poor part of town and now into farm life in the countryside. Having lived a life lacking in affection Nellie is confused by her new friend who quickly comes to realise that the sweet young girl he once knew as a young child was now a beautiful young woman who has stolen his heart.
