Neurotypical Stories

A neurotypical boy called Emmett falls in love with a neurodivergent girl called Ophelia. Neurodivergent definition; differing in mental or neurological function from what is considered typical or normal (frequently used with reference to autistic spectrum disorders); not neurotypical.

This is poetry I wrote in 2016 expressing my feeling with autism at the time. The style is quite wordy, something I learned to avoid now. Can't really hype it up, just some juvenalia in case I actually turn into an author lol. Enjoy!

when Connor gets expelled from Westerberg, his parents send him and Zoe to Ireland. Little did he know what would happen. For three years, Rebecca had been going to her older sister's house in a small town in the middle of nowhere. For three years, all Rebecca did was sleep, eat, and walk with nothing interesting in between. For three years, Rebecca's summers were worthless wastes of time. It was three years until she stumbled upon a group of people that could completely turn it around. Introduced by the beautiful self-proclaimed "Mary Sue," Becca joins in on questionably legal adventures with people who don't ever mention their real names--all the while coming to terms with the many struggles they all face inside their heads.

A collection of poems dealing with love, loss, PTSD, disability, ADHD, addiction, depression, suicide ideation, eating disorders, women's rights, processing abuse & trauma, etc. Some are just making intrusive thoughts rhyme, some are just thinking about a situation differently or applying metaphoric meaning to life's little moments. I try to come to some kind of resolution in each poem or reframe my way of thinking by the end of them. A lot of it is pretty dang personal, so...if you know me, no you don't. I started journaling and writing poetry when I was being gaslit a ton in an abusive relationship in college. It was a way to keep track of interactions that I was later told never happened. Now, it's just how I process things. It helps me get it out my system or look at the situation differently. Sometimes I can't sort out my own feelings until I try to write it out. My brain likes to work in way too many metaphors. Thanks for reading! Hope it helps you sort out some feelies, too.
