The lingering taste of victory is still on the newsies tongues, but in the dead of winter, and with illness spreading like wildfire, it's far more bitter than sweet. Racetrack Higgins should know better than to worry, but money's tight and Jack Kelly is stubborn. A run in with the less than notorious Kingfisher stirs both panic and Race's want to help. His need to. He couldn't save his old family; maybe he can save his new one. But the gang leader is far more crooked than even Race could have anticipated and, despite Jack's warnings, Kingfishers offers for help spiral into something more.
