In 37,982 days, Bolt, as they called him, had learned a few things. Most importantly however, was that he was never going to be free. He wasn't sure how it was possible, but he produced electricity. It was constantly flowing from his body. They called him a clean energy source. He'd been...created. So he sat in the cell and he stared at the people and he listening to their conversations. Years passed, and his hopes of getting old and dying were dashed. He never got older. He was trapped. He was going to spend the rest of forever in this place. Providing energy for all these people that didn't even know where it was coming from. From what he heard, the city was the largest and richest one in the land. All because of him.

He envisioned a place where he could bring forth a society of integrated functional individuals and free them of the isolation of post-modernity and capitalism. He desired to build a community in which acquisition of goods could be paired with human interaction. He dreamed of a place where the flare of capitalism could bring people together and give them reason, give them hope... How sad it is. He went mad instead.

In a world where citizens are only permitted to leave their house for three hours a day, one girl wonders why. In a world where true history is hidden from the masses and their world exists with no explanation, one girl wonders who came before. Standard is a village where things work differently. Everyone has a role, chosen with a ceremony when people arrive at the age of 15. In this society, the rules are stringent, and acting against them comports an expulsion to the ordinary world. This book is about the story of a 14 years old girl who isn't convinced about the utility of Standard's system.

In a world where everyone is looking for their missing half; jealousy is fueled by desire and the smell of sex and desperation is always lingering under your nose. By government standards, I am not enough, and I will never be enough. My nose bends on the bridge, my eyes aren't big enough for my small, round face. I have a noticeable double chin and my dimples are nonexistent. And since I'm done growing, there is no room for improvement. And so, I am hidden by my Imager. I am still out in the open, still visible by all. My true face is behind an animator. The small device provides me with an extra layer. It fixes all my imperfections and adds some dimples. Hundreds of thousands of pixels make up my new face, tracking my expression and every movement. It's foolproof. It gives me confidence but it also ensures my safety.
