What if the global revolution didn't ignite in Petrograd, but in the ports and coal mines of the Pacific? This sweeping, deeply detailed alternate history re-imagines the 20th century through the lens of a radical socialist superpower in the Southern Hemisphere. Spanning nearly a century, the chronicle begins in the depths of World War I, where a clandestine communication network known as the "Red Wire" sparks a synchronized worker uprising across Australia and New Zealand. Bypassing colonial wartime censorship, the newly forged Australasian Socialist Federation (ASF) successfully throws off the British Imperial yoke, breaking royal blockades and repelling a bloody Pacific Civil War. From the defense of Botany Bay to a fierce "Great Patriotic War" against Imperial Japanese invaders, the ASF survives through sheer solidarity and innovative, localized warfare. In peacetime, the Federation emerges as a global beacon of democratic syndicalism. Resilient against the Wall Street Crash of 1929, defiant during the Cold War's Tasman Missile Crisis, and untouched by the collapse of the Soviet Bloc, the ASF pioneers an insulated, eco-conscious economy driven by labor credits, green energy, and a revolutionary real-time digital democracy. Rich in geopolitical intrigue, technological divergence, and military strategy, this timeline offers a captivating blueprint of a world where corporate capitalism failed to conquer the globe, and the working class built a high-tech, zero-emission sanctuary in the South Pacific.

What if Australia never fought for the Allies-and instead reshaped the world? In this sweeping alternate history, the Free Australian State breaks from the British Empire in 1939 and forges an uneasy alliance with the Axis powers. What begins as a desperate bid for independence transforms into a century-long struggle for sovereignty, technological supremacy, and the future of the Southern Hemisphere. As old empires collapse, Australia leads the creation of a powerful Pacific alliance built alongside Indigenous nations and emerging sovereign states across Oceania. From covert revolutions and geopolitical intrigue to biophilic megacities, lunar settlements, and decentralized digital civilizations, the Southern Hemisphere rises into a global superpower that challenges the authoritarian giants of Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Blending military strategy, political speculation, indigenous resurgence, and visionary science fiction, this epic timeline explores a world where history fractures at a single decision-and the balance of power shifts forever to the South.

In 1914, as Europe bled, two nations made a radical choice: they chose to survive. Faced with an imperial mandate that would bankrupt their economies and slaughter their youth, Australia and New Zealand did the unthinkable. They seceded from the British Empire, dissolved their militaries, and declared absolute, permanent neutrality. Re-branded as the International Humanitarian Sanctuary (IHS), the continent transformed into a weapon-free zone dedicated entirely to human survival. But peace is never passive. To prove their mandate to a cynical world, the unarmed crews of the iconic "White Fleet" must navigate the deadliest eras of human history. From dodging rogue British battleships in category-five typhoons during WWI, to using brightly lit hospital ships as human shields against Japanese submarines in WWII, to running a high-stakes American naval blockade during the Cuban Missile Crisis-the IHS learns that remaining neutral requires a terrifying amount of courage.

The empire demanded their blood. They chose their home. In the blood-soaked mud of 1916, the British Empire demands a devastating price from its distant colonies. But when the call for more ANZAC reinforcements reaches the Pacific, the thread snaps. Instead of compliance, the streets of Melbourne and Wellington explode into violent, anti-imperial riots. In a coordinated political coup, radical nationalist governments seize power, severing ties with the British Crown to forge a defiant new alliance: the United Commonwealth of Australia and the Republic of Aotearoa. Furious at the betrayal, the Royal Navy seals the borders with a brutal blockade, plunging the young nations into an agonizing war of survival. Returning soldiers face a shattering choice: uphold their oaths to a distant King, or defend the rugged shores of a newly independent homeland. To survive, the breakaway republics must form unprecedented alliances with indigenous leaders, rewriting the future of their land and striking a dangerous bargain with the Empire's enemies. From the desperate trenches of the Siege of Auckland to the clandestine nuclear labs of the Australian desert and the vibrant, decolonized cultural renaissance of the 1990s, the story charts an alternate century of defiance. Armed with an independent spirit, a proprietary digital frontier, and a nuclear deterrent, two nations stand completely unbowed-forever detached from the Crown, guarding the gateway to the Southern Hemisphere.

In 1963, the Maphilindo confederation didn't collapse under the weight of political rivalry. Instead, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines unified into a massive, resource-rich regional bloc. Seeing the writing on the wall, Australia and New Zealand pivoted away from total reliance on the West, merging the ANZUS treaty with Maphilindo to form the Oceanic Defense Coalition (ODC).

What if the South Pacific became the world's greatest experiment in democracy instead of empire? In 1914, Australia refuses to fight for the British Empire. Instead, workers, Indigenous leaders, and anti-war reformers declare a sovereign liberal-socialist republic built on cooperation, democracy, and self-determination. What begins as a bold act of defiance soon grows into something far greater. Across Oceania, colonial governments fall as Māori, Aboriginal, Papuan, Melanesian, and Polynesian peoples reclaim their lands, cultures, and futures. United as the South Seas Cooperative Council, they forge a civilization unlike any other-one where worker-owned industries, Indigenous governance, environmental stewardship, and personal liberty stand at the heart of society. Spanning nearly a century, this richly imagined alternate history follows the Council through world wars, decolonization, technological revolutions, and a Cold War against an authoritarian German Empire. Blending political intrigue, military strategy, cultural revival, and optimistic worldbuilding, it explores what the twentieth century might have looked like if cooperation-not conquest-had become the defining force of the Pacific. A sweeping vision of an Indigenous-led, democratic, and sustainable future, The South Seas Cooperative Council reimagines the history of Oceania-and the world itself.
