The first time I felt at home away from home wasn't in a resort suite with towel swans and room service - it was in a sunlit kitchen in Osaka, jet-lagged and barefoot, being handed a steaming bowl of zosui soup by a grandmother I'd only just met. We didn't share a language, but we understood each other through nods and the quiet ritual of food. During my cultural exchange, I rode a hand-me-down bicycle past vending machines and uniformed schoolgirls. I learned to bow, to navigate crowded buses, and to speak with gestures when words failed. That version of me felt anonymous, free, and reborn. Years later in Granada, Nicaragua, I lived another life - waking up to roosters, eating gallo pinto, and joining a family that fed me love as generously as meals. I went to school with locals, danced in twilight squares, and learned what it meant to belong to a place, if only for a season. It wasn't glamorous - but it was real. And realness is what stays. Resort life is fun, but immersive travel transforms you. It's empathy in action - living someone else's rhythm and letting it change yours. Those moments - being taught to use chopsticks in Osaka, or observing Easter in Granada - are burned into memory not for their spectacle, but because I was seen, cared for, and made to feel like family. That's why I want to travel with Intrepid. Not just to explore new places, but to live new lives. To wake up under unfamiliar stars, with my best friend beside me, soaking in the beauty and humanity of a world that's wide, welcoming, and waiting.
