"Elizabeth, so che non ne vuoi parlare ma devo chiedertelo. Non posso non farlo" cominciò. Quasi non mi strozzai con il caffè sapendo a cosa la nostra conversazione si stava avvicinando. Quando doveva dirti una cosa non usava mezzi termini né giri di parole, andava dritto al punto. "Quale decisione?" le chiesi poggiando il bicchierino sul vassoio facendo finta di niente. "Perché sei tornata qui a Los Angeles? Perché così improvvisamente? Sei tornata da lui? O per lui? L'hai sentito in questi anni?" mi chiese. Scossi la testa velocemente. "No, assolutamente. Non lo vedo e non lo sento da quel giorno, mamma" ammisi pensierosa. "E perché la decisione di tornare in un posto che ti ha causato così tanta sofferenza? Ti ho vista ieri sera quando sei tornata, sembrava avessi visto un fantasma. Hai saputo?" chiese guardandomi dritta negli occhi. "Cosa?" chiesi curiosa "Non sai nulla?" mi chiese "No, cosa?" ripetei "Dovresti parlarne con Sam, quello che so io potrebbero essere solo voci" Aveva un viso affranto. A cosa si riferiva?
