Faith stood in line at the rice lady's kiosk, her mind still reeling from the morning's math test. She was lost in thought, replaying the tricky questions in her head.
Just as she was about to order her lunch, she felt a gentle tap on her shoulder. She turned to see a charming smile and piercing brown eyes belonging to a boy she'd never seen before.
"Mind if I cut in front of you?" he asked, his voice low and smooth, with a hint of Yoruba accent. "I promise I'll make it worth your while."
Faith raised an eyebrow, amused by his boldness. "And how do you plan to do that?"
Lekan chuckled. "Let's just say I'm willing to take the risk. I'm Lekan, by the way."
Faith's heart skipped a beat as their eyes met. She felt a spark of attraction, but tried to brush it off. "I'm Faith."
As they waited in line together, Lekan asked her about her day, and Faith found herself opening up to him. When they reached the front of the line, Lekan insisted on buying her lunch.
"You're a math whiz, huh?" Lekan said, as they walked away from the stall. "I'm impressed."
Faith smiled. "Just trying to survive SS2."
Lekan grinned. "I feel you. But I think we're going to get along just fine, Faith."
As they parted ways, Lekan turned back to her with a smile. "See you around, Faith. Maybe next time, I'll even let you cut in front of me."
Faith laughed, feeling a flutter in her chest. She couldn't wait to see him again.
