But she found something more interesting than spreading darkness eternally. A portal to another world. She entered it and saw two children lying on a stump all alone. Their mother trying to reach them from the side that she was on. The pony walked up to the blonde one. She saw potential in him. She sealed herself inside of him.

In Nightmare Moon's timeline Twilight and Spike are at Nightmare's mercy but instead of threatening Twilight she challenges her to a magic duel There can only be one winner.
