"Noli Me Tangere" is a novel written by Filipino nationalist and author Jose Rizal. Published in 1887, it is considered one of the most important works of Philippine literature. The title is Latin, which translates to "Touch Me Not" in English. The novel revolves around the life of Crisostomo Ibarra, a young Filipino who returns to the Philippines from studying in Europe. Upon his return, he finds his country oppressed by Spanish colonial rule and the Catholic Church's influence. Outside the convento of Tiano, Basilio tells a young boy stories of ghosts that haunt their town; ghosts seeking solace, as well as redemption and revenge. He also speaks of his longing to see these ghosts, to find the answers to his own questions. But maybe the ghost he is looking for is closer than he thinks.
