A fairy tale set in a sunswept wasteland.

There is a land called Novikia, where humans are second class, and Wielders rule. There is magic and great beasts that roam the land, and there is peace. But it comes with a price. It has been so long, the people do not even see what their precious Cities have become; cages. The Cities are full of fat-cat dukes and dutchess', nobles and the rich-blooded. They live pampered lives with easy work and large houses. The Villages are full of the people who are not so lucky. These people know the cruelty of the king who has ruled for too long, with far too much power. For so long, the people have been sheep; herded and pushed along into compliance with the threat of horrible punishment. They don't remember how to fight back. Only a few groups remain who still remember what it means to be a Wielder. They were not meant to follow. They were not meant to be confined. They were born for freedom. They were born for power, and with a thirst for knowledge, all the things the king has taken away from them. It has been too long, and this war is a long time coming.

A hundred years ago, the armies of the Suni Empire crossed the seas and set foot in the Ravengard, ending its two millennia of splendid isolation. Today, they continue to advance into its untamed wilderness, their soldiers, bankers, builders and settlers eager to bring the light of civilisation to the native barbarians and transport them into the modern world. That the Ravenfolk are perfectly happy with things the way they are, and have no desire to abandon their semi-nomadic lifestyle, is only a minor detail. After decades of conflict an uneasy truce has been established between the two peoples, a truce which satisfies no-one. The Suni leaders impatiently wait to complete their colonisation, but the Ravenfolk are keen to ensure no more land is lost to the invaders. Much of the southern Ravengard is now firmly a part of the Empire, and pioneer towns and cities stretch deep into the untamed interior. On the Frontier, the lines blur. Suni and Raven live in a state of uneasy cooperation, trading and negotiating with each other whilst always watching for a knife in the back. But simply surviving in the untamed outback, far from the security of civilisation, may demand trust in ancestral enemies that neither peoples are ready to place. Prejudices must be confronted, old certainties questioned, and new ways explored, if peace is ever to return to the Ravengard.

It has been the 200th year since the world wide cause had happened, which is known as the Separation. The Separation was supposedly help the society live in three separate groups to survive on their own. The Elite, the Plebs, and the Nomads. Zaila Hendrick is a member of a family under the mark of the Nomads, roaming the untamed earth. The government doesn't care for the nomads and the government is running out of resources and land, making new constructions and buildings in the Nomad land. The Hendricks family always have to stay two steps ahead, fleeing from their path before getting destroyed. The government is looking out for Nomads, wanting them to join a uprising war. Zaila and her family are forced to hide, not wanting to get involved. One by one the members of the family begin to face unfortunate problems. Zaila is soon left off alone, nowhere to go. She is the last one remaining. Where will she go next?
