Sweetheart will be used with both sexes speaking to opposite genders especially if they happen upon a platonic friend of an opposite gender in a time of sorrow when one needs words of encouragement that offer genuine comfort. Sweetie, or sweethearts are gender neutral terms of general endearment as is darlings. This book has flashbacks to the famously underrated Mia and Me fairy show filmed live action sets in Florence Italy first season and some parts of Rome. It was perfect to introduce the flashbacks to Mia and Me Electra's version of the animated adventures because Winx Club, Rise of the Guardians and Mia & Me all have one thing in common they all mention unicorns. Bloom, the hero companion of Princess Stella, the protagonist who became the reason for the show to start had dreams about unicorns much like the little kid who Pitch scares at the beginning of the movie.
