Small passages that were inspired by landscape pictures

Thomas O'Rally has been fascinated by the northern lights ever since he was a young boy. Every day Tom goes out on the balcony of his two story house hoping to see the lights. The problem is he lives in Michigan. There's really only one spot for him to see them. Why can't he just easily go drive up there? Tom has cancer. A very bad case of cancer, he is home schooled by a tutor from the local college. His family has money but just not a lot of it. They still have debts from the hospital he gets treatments at. He has his wonderful dream of seeing the lights. He really, really hopes The Make A Wish Foundation can make it happen. The journey is tough, especially for a 14 year old with little to no friends. His cancer is slowly and patiently eating him alive. It's around Christmas time and you know those little trees at the malls with little stars with kids wishes on them it's from The Make A Wish Foundation. With only 5 months left to live Thomas exited for the journey coming ahead.

A fanmade prequal to the book The golden compass/Northern lights by Philip Pullman. This work was done by 5 people as a project in our creative writing course. This is a story of how Marisa Coulter became the soulless woman she is in the books. It touches her relationships with Edward and Lord Asriel and hopes to explain of how their relationship becomes so complicated later on. Each chapter depicts a certain age and period of Marisa's life.

This is the story of His Dark Materials, told through the eyes of Sarah Belacqua. A twelve-year-old witch child, who grew up with Lyra at Jordan College.

I boarded the Alaskan railroad in the dead of winter on a quest to see the allusive Aurora Borealis, most commanly known as the Norther Lights. The following passage describes the landscape as I gazed out the window, while the train took me deeper and deeper into a cold and far-off place.
