I started writing poetry when I was 17 years old. Back then, the words came so easily - I'd fight with my mother and write a poem about it, spend time with my crush and write a poem about it, go for a walk and... I think you get it. I wish I could say that the same was true now, nearly ten years later, but with the older I become, the more difficult it is to write something I feel is worthy of sharing. Thankfully, I continue to find new inspirations, mentors and opportunities that allow me to hone in my style and craft, They have restored my confidence in myself and my writing, and I'm happy to finally be able to share my work again with you all!
I began to work on this collection last year when I was lucky enough to have received a summer research grant from my university that allowed me to put together and write new material for a 50+ page manuscript. Ever the perfectionist, I continue to work on these poems in preparation for sending writing samples to publications and fellowship programs (fingers crossed that someone out there wants to give me money for my work lol). I hope that the stories and experiences shared in these poems will find you in times of loneliness, laughter, quiet contemplation, and whenever and wherever you may need them.
