Earth has fallen. When the planet crosses its final climate tipping point, temperatures rise, crops fail, and billions are forced onto the move. Diplomacy gives way to ultimatums, then to war. From unassuming laboratories to streets drowning in heat and hunger, a fractured world stumbles toward its final reckoning. As famine and conflict spread, international order dissolves into violence and blame, and armies march north through ruins chasing a future that no longer exists. Yet amid the despair, a radical plan takes shape to move a fragment of humanity to the red sands of Mars. As Earth burns and the heavens fill with refugees, one truth becomes unavoidable: the future belongs only to those willing to sacrifice everything. In the chaos of the apocalypse, a new kind of security service is needed to enforce order where nations have failed. From the ashes of Old Earth, the Sunguard rises. Scorched Earth is a sweeping hard-science epic about collapse, survival, and the cost of choosing a future when the present is already lost.

Life was hard. John knew that, especially in the wasteland of Post-Apocalyptic America. If the act of being born didn't kill you Raiders, The Institute, lack of food or clean water probably would. In fact, most things could easily lay claim to your life; an angry father, an aggressive older brother, a jaded ex-girl. It was decidedly no place for an empathetic human. Which made John wonder... why had he been born at all? The second and final (?) piece in the collection

I know I am dating myself but I grew up during the Cold War, that notorious era when the threat of immediate and total annihilation of the human species hung over our collective heads like a mushroom cloud. Such a threatened existence had a profound effect on me. While in high school I began to explore this and other issues through several writings which I offer to you, the reader, here as part of what I call the Cold War Kid collection. We were made a little lower than the angels, but for most of our history we have acted as if we were a little lower than the animals. Someday the human species will evolve into its final stage when we come to the conclusion that we can no longer kill our own kind. Until that time comes we can only hope, pray, teach, love and live differently. Our very existence as a species is at stake. If we do not evolve we will perish. This world was ugly before and now it's nothing more than an empty shell of what it used to be. Uglier than it was before as the blue sky turned a muddy brown, the green grass now a crusty yellow color. Isn't humanity fucked up?

The fingerprints of a nuclear war have yet to fade 800 years in the future. Humans considered earth inhabitable, so they took to the sky - creating Sectors around the world that float hundreds of feet above old city ruins. The Sectors are protected by nearly impenetrable barriers that keep the air within safe and clean. Since the dawning of the nuclear apocalypse, humans have only known progress and advancement in nearly every needed resource. Landing Day changed everything. When an alien race set to destroy life on earth invades, humanity is nearly devastated; however, Sector Darwin's scientific achievements and military capabilities combated the Visitors and quickly won the waged war with tremendous casualties. Now, 20 years later, Darwin has developed the solution to balance the crippled male population. Biobots have the ability to reproduce and protect the world against potential future threats. The only question other skeptical Sectors raise is where did they come from? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - **This is my first draft, which will never see the light of day in any publication ever. I've scrapped this for multiple reasons, but Ettrix still wanted to say hello to the world. She's a big muse who won't shut up! http://eviedriver.com/

Everyone saw it coming. Everyone. What others didn't see coming were survivors. Some were immune, yet 99% were not. Brielle just happened to survive. She had thought all hope was abandoned and there was no one else. What could become of the situation she had been put in? Was there anyone else? Why did she survive? The right amount of crazy and imagination with a sprinkle of romance (like every good story has ;)). All comments and votes are highly appreciated (especially comments because I wanna know how terrible or awesome this story/book is)!
